PM-KISAN Eligibility Checker — Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi

PM-KISAN (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi) provides ₹6,000 per year to eligible farmer families in 3 installments of ₹2,000 each, directly credited via DBT to their Aadhaar-linked bank account. The scheme is open to all landholding farmer families — with no land size cap — but has specific exclusion criteria that disqualify certain categories of households. This checker evaluates all criteria including the 6 exclusion conditions.
The land must be registered as agricultural/cultivable land in government records (khatauni/patta). Tenant farmers and sharecroppers are not eligible.
Includes employees of PSUs, autonomous bodies, and aided institutions. Multi-Tasking Staff (Group D / MTS) are NOT excluded.
Excludes ward members/panchas of gram panchayats and municipal bodies — they are NOT excluded.

What is PM-KISAN?

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is a Central Sector Scheme launched on February 1, 2019, providing income support of ₹6,000 per year to all eligible farmer families. The amount is paid in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each, directly to the farmer's Aadhaar-linked bank account via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Unlike many other agricultural schemes, PM-KISAN has no upper land size limit — even large landholders are eligible, provided they do not fall under the exclusion criteria. The scheme is implemented by state/UT governments based on land records (khatauni/patta).

No Land Size Cap — But Exclusions Apply

A common misconception is that PM-KISAN is only for small/marginal farmers (below 2 hectares). This is incorrect — the scheme covers all landholding farmer families. The only eligibility requirement is owning cultivable land. However, the following households are excluded:

  1. Institutional landholders (companies, co-operatives, trusts, government bodies)
  2. Former/current Central/State Government employees (excluding Multi-Tasking Staff)
  3. Income tax payers (any family member who paid income tax in the last FY)
  4. Retired employees receiving pension ≥ ₹10,000/month (excluding MTS)
  5. Professionals registered with professional bodies (Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, CAs, Architects)
  6. Current/former MPs, MLAs, Ministers, Mayors, District Panchayat Chairpersons

Important: Ward members, panch members (gram sabha), and municipal councillors are NOT excluded.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for PM-KISAN if I am a tenant farmer (I farm someone else's land)?

No. PM-KISAN requires that you own cultivable land registered in your name (or your family's name). Tenant farmers, sharecroppers, and agricultural labourers are not eligible, even if they are the primary cultivators of the land.

Is there a land size limit for PM-KISAN?

No, there is no upper or lower limit on land size. Even farmers with very small plots (below 0.1 hectare) are eligible as long as they own the land. Similarly, large landholders can also benefit — the exclusion is not based on landholding size but on the exclusion criteria (government employment, income tax, professional registration, etc.).

My father is a retired government pensioner receiving ₹8,000/month. Am I (a farmer) still eligible?

Yes. The pension exclusion applies to pensioners receiving ₹10,000 or more per month. At ₹8,000/month, your father is below this threshold, so the exclusion does not apply. The "family" for PM-KISAN purposes is the husband, wife, and minor children.

I am a farmer but my son is a doctor. Am I excluded?

Yes. If any member of the farmer's family (husband, wife, or minor children) is a registered professional (Doctor, Lawyer, CA, Engineer, Architect), the household is excluded from PM-KISAN. Adult children who have established their own families (separate households) are not counted as part of the farmer's family unit.

How do I check my PM-KISAN installment status?

You can check your beneficiary status at pmkisan.gov.in under "Beneficiary Status" — enter your Aadhaar number, bank account number, or mobile number. You can also check the payment history to see which installments have been credited.

What documents are required to register for PM-KISAN?

The key documents needed are: (1) Aadhaar Card — mandatory for KYC and DBT payment, (2) Land ownership records (Khatauni/Patta/RoR) — to verify cultivable land ownership, (3) Bank account details linked to Aadhaar — for DBT credit, (4) Mobile number linked to Aadhaar — for OTP verification. Some states may also ask for a photograph and caste certificate.

Informational Only: This checker is based on the PM-KISAN Operational Guidelines (2019, updated 2023) published by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India. Eligibility is subject to verification by state authorities based on official land records. This does not constitute a guarantee of benefit. Always verify your status and register at pmkisan.gov.in.
